keystroke shirley.

31 Dec

i’ve hired a new employee at work.  her name is keystroke shirley.  haha. 🙂

i’ve been toying with the idea of using a keystroke/mouse macro recorder to help with the more manual repetitive tasks that are a direct result of our horrible sap conversion.  i did a quick google search and the first keystroke macro to pop up was a software program very aptly named macro recorder.  a quick read of the description on the website promised not only a mouse recorder and keystroke recorder but the ability to insert pauses and if-then statements, amongst other things.  i wasn’t sure i would really need to use these extras, but there was a free trial available for download so i figured i would try it out.

can you say awesome?! 🙂

i hate reading directions but this program was super user friendly, which makes life much easier for me.  i tested the program on a bunch of different manual processes and yay it works well!  basically you hit the record button and then do the task.  it creates a macro based on your keystrokes and movements.  i found that i had to really be careful of where i clicked and how fast i did my motions in order for it to record properly.  i was also victim to sap’s slowness, which required me to wait after each click for the screen to change.  after you are done recording, you can play back the recorded movements and keystrokes, change the speed, how often to repeat the loop, etc.  i think i’ll be able to make good use of it, and i may never need to place a manual PO ever again.

now to convince my manager to give me the budget to buy some licenses…
